Fixing a Tooth
So It Looks Like New

If you have a damaged or broken tooth, we can restore it with a natural-looking dental crown. This will strengthen the tooth and restore it to full function. We’ll use a color guide to match the crown to your existing teeth so it blends right in with your smile.

A dental crown is a cap that fits snugly on top of your tooth. It can be made from a variety of materials. Here at our office in Tallahassee, we provide crowns made of all-porcelain, zirconia, porcelain-fused-to-gold, and gold.

How Do Dental Crowns Work?

In addition to restoring a severely damaged tooth, a dental crown can also be used to protect a tooth after root canal therapy or to secure a dental bridge.

Placing a dental crown requires two visits to our office in Tallahassee, FL — the first one to prepare the tooth and the second one to place the permanent crown. During your first appointment, we’ll reshape the affected tooth so the crown fits just right. Then you’ll be provided with a temporary crown to wear until your permanent crown is ready.

As soon as we receive your permanent crown from our dental laboratory, you’ll return to our office so your dentist can attach it. Your restored tooth will look and feel like new.

All you have to do to take care of your crown is regular brushing and flossing. Visiting our office every six months for a professional cleaning and exam will help us make sure your crown lasts as long as possible.

Are You a Candidate For a Dental Crown?

People choose to get dental crowns for a variety of reasons:

  • To protect a cracked or broken tooth
  • To restore a stained tooth that resists whitening
  • To restore a tooth after root canal therapy
  • To improve the size, shape, or color of a tooth

Can I whiten a dental crown?

Dental crowns are resistant to staining, which means they won’t become discolored. But crowns don’t respond to whitening treatments like natural teeth. If you’re interested in whitening your teeth, we recommend completing your whitening treatment before receiving a crown.

What should I do if my crown is damaged?

If your crown is damaged or falls out, contact our office at (850) 878-5186 as soon as possible. We’ll schedule an appointment right away to fix your crown and make sure your tooth is protected.

Can I replace gold or metal crowns with a porcelain crown?

Yes, we can replace your metal crown with a more natural-looking porcelain crown.
